Writing

 Writing:

 Our writing workshop model:

Our workshop is a busy time to explore different types of writing. We incorporate quick writes to help us build our stamina. We want to work on the length of time we can write about a topic as well as begin to work on developing our details on a given subject. This practice can help us when we are given a prompt on our state testing and asked to write all day from planning, drafting, editing, revising and then onto a published piece. We chunk our writing prompts so the drafting and planning are independent during our timed portion. We then have the option to go back and add more, revise or edit during our workshop.

Another part of our workshop is free choice writing.  We use our heart maps to help us come up with ideas.

Term 2: The new topic this term is opinion writing.  Stduents are asked to create a clear opinion on a given topic. Write 3 reasons and explain those reasons in detail with examples. Finally they also need to conclude their opinion piece with a strong conclusion.

Students will continue to practice previously learned writings of opinion writing and informational writing learned in term 1.

Students continue to free write with daily choices in their writing notebooks.
